Check us out on Instagram for renditions of Day 4: Red for December's #Holidayaday challenge! ;)
Things are swell here in Chi-town! We made a long travel day out of yesterday and I got to go downtown for the first time! We ate at the Signature room in the John Hancock building which was fabulous. I got in a quick post-walk strength workout before heading to the casino next door and getting lucky! I know when to walk away! ;)
Day 3 of the #Holidayaday challenge yesterday: Work it. After the Chicaco walk-fest I scoped out the hotel gym.
Pure luck. $7 in...I walked away!
Oh! I didn't get to share our Friday night with ya! When Yelp invited me to celebrate the start of the Christmas season at Busch Gardens I was all in for sure!
We honestly live only 30 minutes from Busch Gardens and haven't been in years...scratch that, we went for Howl o' Scream last year and I wussed out of all of the haunted houses ;) When Yelp invited me to attend their BG's Christmastown event I was pretty sure there'd be no scaring involved and was all in!
Hubs and I arrived at Busch Gardens Friday night and were immediately struck by the plethora of lights and Christmas cheer entering the Welcome area! Friendly Yelp elves greeted us and explained how our VIP worked: front of the line access?! SANTA?! Winter Wonderland?! All of the animals in rhe dark?! I should have been on a kiddie leash, but since I wasn't I stormed into the park leaving by hubby in the dust!
There was a fun Twitter contest going on, but I happened to forget about it because there was SO much to look at...I felt like s giddy little kid! We met up the Yelp group at the Crown Colony and were given a lovely gifts such as a Busch Gardens Christmastown cup with candy and a handy Coca Cola hat! Why are you not Yelping?? Have you seen the awesome shindigs I've gotten to go to?!
After a quick bite, I had pizza and hubs enjoyed his pot pie, we ventured into Christmastown!
Btw that angel is a real person-statue!
Ran into this lady at dinner!
The attention to detail that Busch Gardens put into this new event was awesome: blue and white lights adorned the park...penguins swam for our amusement....with 3D glasses all of the lights looked like snowflakes!
We kind of got lost....our own fault for winging it....but it didn't matter..we got to see it all! We walked by Santas house, lighted animals, elves greeting guests, and Mrs. Clause welcoming folks into her home. We were welcomed by Christmas Carolers and all sorts of employees dressed in Christmas fabulousness. To see kids so happy and filled with womder as they asked Mrs. Claus to pass on messages to Santa made me smile big. We made it to Stanleyville to take the train back to where we started since we were on the hunt for sweet goodness! We had tickets to get candied nuts and a Belgium waffle!
We met up with Beks and her bf and were ready to explore!
Once we made it back to Christmastown, we saw the shining light that was filled with snow and sweet goodness! Cottage after cottage with s'mores and chocolates...and then the Belgium Waffle House...I stared at the attendant for a moment, eyes beaming with wonder...before he took my order. I snapped back into reality and ordered my waffle with apples, strawberries, and whipped cream! Even though I only finished a quarter of it, it was magical. There was even a section called Snoworld where one could play in real snow and go for a sled ride!
Wait! Front of the line access! Rides! My tummy was full but I wanted to see which ride we were up for: Cheetah hunt! No lines?! Holy fun! It was not rickety like most roller coasters can be, and went super fast...spinning and twisting and turning...we got on twice!
Cheetah Hunt violated me...which made ma laugh so hard I could cry. On an upside down turn, one of the 'girls' popped up and then back into my shirt. I do not lie. Beks and I couldn't stop laughing and are still doing so. Hubs said if the coaster camera caught that on film I'd win some kind of award. But it wasn't...horray for me!
All in all, I loved Christmastown! The pictures don't do the park justice with all of the wonderment we saw walking around. Many more rides and special editions await you through the end of December on select nights. Busch Gardens did a great job putting on the ritz with Holiday Cheer...I am definitely recommending this event and coming back!
