NYC Part 2 plus Kat's City tips

Part Duex: I made it out with my cousin for a 3rd run on Day 3 (Saturday - the day of the wedding!-that'll take a whole post and review of drunkity drunk pics not to post tee hee.) I didn't stick to my 'Half Marathon Plan' but did get in the same mileage spread out between the days we were there so that I didn't keel over while we walked the city ;) Tip: If you plan to visit the city, run but don't overdo it. All of the walking...miles and miles...counts!

Tres, tres runs amigos!
I came back to hubs and got ready to head out for another day of exploration! While we were walking in West Village we spotted a Chinese bakery called Fay Da bakery. In the window, Gar spotted his favorite thing in the whole wide world: steamed pork buns. So, we headed there for brunch before making our way uptown.

Whoa....sweet bun overload

Hubs is SO excited, and he just couldn't hide it

We shared some steamed pork & chicken buns and a ham/egg sweet bun sammich. I got the fresh watermelon smoothie too which was fabulous in the summer heat! Tip: Great eats on the cheap! And authentic too! We found a place to sit across 6th in a park with little kids running around in their undies - ces la vie. We decided, then, to walk a bit up 6th Avenue and then cab it up the rest of the way to 37th/5th Ave to make it to Reebok's new Crossfit store/gym! Ah, the promise land ;)

The fit girl that I am, I set my sights on this place as soon as I knew it was open and we'd be in NYC! I asked the girl working their if she minded if I took a few dorky photos and she was super cool about me taking shots of the place while simultaneously shopping.

WOD posted up front

You  can even take a few home ... few meaning all of them??

me in the fitting room with the shorts I decided to buy, SO comfy!

The kind shop employee also said it'd be cool to visit the Crossfit box downstairs. It was closed, but she said we could venture around and check it out! Heck yes please!

Big...pretty...brightly colored gym...hubs was in awe

I didn't get to partake in any actual Crossfit action, but I was pretty impressed with all that was in this Box. Anyone who gets a workout in here, you're a lucky duck!

Gar said he'd never been to Central Park ((gasp.)) So, after checking that his ankle was good to go, we ventured up 5th to check it out! (I've been there before, but never get sick of it. Besides, I had it on my list to 'run Central Park'...and running was what I was going to do!)

A walk past the Public Library where Big stood up Carrie....grr

Finally here, we spotted the creepy guys dressed as faux Sesame Street characters..photo opp? don't touch me please...

Friendly European tourists were sweet enough to take photos of us, thanks ladies!

The views from the southern part of the park were awesome. Green-screen-like

Tip: Run Central Park! I ran in the morning, remember. So even a quick 100m-photo-run counts AND feel free to be a kid and climb the rocks...I had no shame, I'm a big kid ;)

So, I made this list of things I wanted us to be able to do while in NYC. On them were: Visit Chinatown, go to Crumbs cupcakes, Run Central Park, Run the Hudson River, visit Carrie's house on SATC + Magnolia bakery, eat a hot dog at Gray's Papaya, go on the Today Show, visit the 9/11 memorial, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, and eat Falafel from a street truck. Checks all around! Tip: Make a list and try to do the things you really want to do! I was told to see a show, etc. but we did that last time we were here and sometimes seeing a Broadway show is great, but it costs a bit for one night.

a 100m run is a run - check!

Hubs even did a Bolt-post for me after me climbed up on a park rock...the climb down was a little nerve racking lol

Drool....do it

I've ALWAYS loved visiting Crumb's Bake shop. The last time we were in NYC we got a 'snowflake' (it was Christmas time of course) cupcake that was filled with vanilla buttercream. I'd kept it in my carry-on and brought it home! I ate it in one quick swoop after giving hubs maybe 2 bites of it. Divine. All of their cupcakes, or most of them anyway, are filled and have the best toppings! I'm a huge cupcake fan; nothing too sugary sweet for frosting, but just sweet enough ;) Tip: Go here. Please. You will NOT regret it.

Drool....again

my Monkey Business cupcake: banana cake w/caramel cheesecake frosting and filling. Drool...yet again

Hubs chose a S'mores cupcake and ended up liking mine better, go figure. I'm glad these shops aren't local around where we are...or I'd have to ask them to make non-fat options! This day we didn't necessarily stick to a fit-plan but after working out in the am I made sure we remembered we were on vacation and wanted to enjoy it all! Food included! Tip: Enjoy yourself! Being fit is a lifestyle, but enjoying life is a part of that! Also you can be sure to eat throughout the day versus big meals - snacking and walking snacking and walking. Keeping with the spirit of that excuse game plan we stopped for falafel on the way back to the hotel. An hour nap later, we were prepped and ready for the main event: my cousins' wedding - this'll be in Part 3 ;)

Aside from vacation recapping, I'm back on zee run plan!

Wednesday's workout: Reebok at-gym WOD (400m run/21 air squats/15 burpees/9 hollow rocks) & circuit work (shoulder presses/smith machine pull ups/stretching)

Thursday's workout: Speed work! I did the 400s on Weds at speed interval pace so did 1 mile w/u + 3 more 800s (7:30s) & tricep dips + pushups

How are you kicking off your Thursday?? Do you have as bad of a sweet-tooth as I do? ;)
